Who, What, Why

Captain Chris Bartick grew up around boats, first learning on a tiny sunfish sailboat earlier than he can remember. He has sailed (and motored) on a variety of boats from ski boats to cruising sailboats, including his parent's 34 foot Tartan sailboat. Chris attended James Madison University and founded the sailing club—a challenging endevor, based on its location in the mountains! During his summers off from college, he worked at a powerboat dealership delivering new boats and training new owners and also began sailboat racing on the Chesapeake Bay. After college, Chris moved to New York City to pursue a career as a graphic designer, which he currently maintains. Since living in New York, he has been racing on Long Island sound on a J120, Wanderlust's older sister and sailed in the Newport to Bermuda race in 2008.

Captain Toby Stull grew up on Eastern Long Island Sound and was on boats before he could walk. He first learned to sail on his family’s 14ft East Wind sailboat with his father. By third grade, Toby was sailing and racing collegiate class dinghys with a local club. He spent his youth sailing a range of small boats and cruised with his family aboard a 31-foot sloop. Toby raced a variety of small boats including J22s through college. He began teaching sailing during college. His extensive sailing resume includes Multiple Block Island Race Weeks and several Long Island Sound campaigns. Toby has restored and lived aboard several sailboats including a C&C 35 Mark 1, on which he won several regattas with in Eastern Long Island Sound. He has held several professional crew positions aboard vessels up to 140 feet. Toby is an experienced yachtsman and instructor.
